Equity in Education

In Staunton City Schools, we recognize that our commitment to educational equity is not only part of our values but critical to every student’s success. We believe that the fastest way to equity in education is great instruction. Our teachers believe in every student’s ability to succeed and strive to provide excellent instruction to our students daily.

Each of our schools must be a welcoming and accepting place where people of all backgrounds and persuasions can learn and teach in an environment where their authentic voices and lived experiences are heard and valued. We strive for a faculty and staff that reflects the diverse makeup of the student body, an inclusive curriculum and teaching strategies free of bias and prejudice.

We are proud to see the results of the hard work of our educators and students in our achievement data from the 2023-24 school year. Our students achieved at high levels, and numerous schools saw essentially no difference in test scores among reporting groups, regardless of race, socioeconomic status or ability.

We continue to work daily to make our schools more equitable and inclusive and reduce achievement gaps for every student.
