The Staunton City School Board voted in a special meeting on March 4, 2025 to hire BWP and Associates (BWP), a national search firm specializing in school superintendent recruitment, to lead the search for Staunton City Schools' next superintendent.

The search process is underway after current superintendent Garett Smith announced his retirement last month, effective June 30, 2025.

The school board will work with Kevin Castner and E. Wayne Harris of BWP—both retired superintendents. They successfully recruited SCS's last two superintendents and have helped school divisions across Virginia and beyond recruit and hire more than 60 superintendents.

• Online community survey released for public input

• Finalist named
