Who We Are

The Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities (VCIC) is a Richmond-based non-profit organization that specializes in addressing prejudices in all forms to improve academic achievement, increase workplace productivity and enhance local trust.  It has supported many schools and districts across Virginia, and the organization’s work has been recognized nationally for its effectiveness.

Staunton City Schools began a partnership with VCIC in 2017 to help the school division develop a plan for diversity and inclusion in the school division. A significant part of this initial project was to make a well-informed decision about the name of the city’s public high school

About Us

The Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge joined the partnership to fund VCIC-led community listening sessions and focus group discussions about the name as well as other diversity and inclusion matters in the school system.

We are continuing to do purposeful work with VCIC to achieve educational equity for our students. This year, we will continue with diversity and inclusion staff training, Upstander training for students, and the development of Staunton City Schools’ first-ever equity plan.
