Governor McAuliffe announced the 2016-2017 Governor’s Challenge in High School Voter Registration. High schools across the Commonwealth will have the opportunity to compete to register the highest percentage of their voting-age population. Schools that reach or exceed 65 percent will receive a congratulatory certificate from the Governor. Register to vote at the Virginia Department of Elections Citizen Portal!
The Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) is asking Virginia high school students to express their thoughts and ideas around the theme “Workforce Readiness” through our fourth annual student video contest. Students are invited to submit a 30 second video that shows what it means to be "Workforce Ready!" Submit videos by October 3, 2016.
We are a school division committed to our students and providing an excellent educational program. Our teachers value the uniqueness of each student and strive to challenge them daily. Teaching engaging lessons rooted in the Standards of Learning augmented by a variety of resources makes every day critical for the achievement for our students.
The School Board conducts an annual review of Policy INDCA-Release Time and has done so since the policy was adopted in 2005. As part of its review process in 2016, the School Board discussed a number of education-related considerations, and decided, in a 5-1 vote on July 8, to discontinue the Release Time Policy.
One of a community’s greatest assets is its public schools – the children, their families, and the school division’s staff. The school buildings create the framework in which our students learn, our teachers teach and our support staff provide services to meet the diverse needs of our programs.
During opening faculty meetings and convocation, the staff clapped and cheered as preliminary data from the 2015-2016 testing year was shared. This assessment year marked many celebrations for Staunton City Schools.
