The Staunton City School Board is responsible for approving all major decisions affecting the school system with regard to policy, curriculum, teacher, administrative and support staffing, and student disciplinary actions.  School Board members are elected and serve four year terms.  Members are volunteers and do not receive payment for their considerable contribution of time, energy, and expertise.
 
The School Board recommends a budget to City Council for appropriation and the administration of the budget is carried out through the office of the Superintendent of Schools.  The overall functioning of the school system is the sole responsibility of the School Board and its members. 
 
The Board meets on the second Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Meetings are held at each of the City schools on an announced basis and at the School Board Office located at City Hall.  All regular meetings are open to the public.
